I know this is already halfway round the internet by now, but I’m a little late on the bandwagon with this one- Poladroid. It’s a compact application for mac or pc that mimics the saturated, out of focus look of polaroid film. Of course, yes you could get the same effect by using a few Photoshop curves and a polaroid frame but it’s just a bit more fun this way.
The website has the program for free download with support, and there’s a few flickr groups showcasing the work.
I went for another walk around our neighborhood a week ago, it was an amazingly bright blue morning, and i managed to find a few patches of green. I had a allotment for a year, just up the road, and we were lucky enough to meet some friendly people. There isn’t really any way to meet people around where we live, so the only people I meet tend to be students. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it was nice to talk to grown ups once in a while!

Anyway, I roamed around the allotment and nosed into people’s plots with my camera. There was a surprising amount of growth: slug-nibbled-sprouts, and fennel, but mainly lots of brambles.

I bought a toy camera over the summer, a Holga 135BC with an awful lens, a peeling name sticker, and cheap plastic body. It’s lovely, I just got a film back from the developer.

Completely unpredictable, confusing and fantastic. The Holga 135BC is the successor to the Holga 135, itself an adaption of the original Holga, which was produced as a simple camera to saturate the market for low cost, low tech cameras in China in the mid eighties. My Holga thankfully take 35mm film, but keeps the characteristic black corner vignetting that was lost in the 135.

It’s fun, it’s easy to tote around, and it seems people tend not to notice (and therefore preen and pose) quite so much as with a hefty digital SLR. It’s occasionally infuriating and the film rewind handle has already fallen off, but it’s still a great little camera.
